Program on Awareness on Gender Sensitization


On 20th April 21, 2018 Women Grievance Redressal Committee, People’s College of Dental Sciences, Bhopal organized a talk aiming at the strengthening a woman’s stand in the society in trying to cope up with the present scenario.

Miss Shrishti Mallick, BA, LLB(LLM) from Symbiosis University, Pune was the resource person. She made the audience aware of the Vishaka and the Saksham guidelines by the honorable Supreme Court of India. She helped the female students and the faculty know their legal  rights like the Dowry Prohibition Act (1961), the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (2006), the Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place Act (2013). She talked about women reservation, adultery, stalking, etc.

The programme was graced by the presence of Dean, PCDS & RC. Dr. Shaji Thomas, Registrar, Peoples University, Dr. Neerja Mallick and NCC coordinator, People’s University, Capt. Sumi Chaudhary. An audience of 120 participants which included teaching, non teaching staff and students, were benefited.

SOLASTA 2018 – Annual Sports,culturals & Fest

People’s College of Dental Sciences & Research Centre kicked off its sports and cultural extravaganza SOLASTA 2018 on 6 February by unfolding huge banners in the presence of the Dean, Dr Shaji Thomas and staff members. The students of all batches were very enthusiastic on the inaugural function.

The annual fest commenced on 17 February 2018 amidst smiling faces and racing hearts. It was inaugurated by Col Ashok Khurana sir ( Director, Planning & Development) in the presence of staff members and students.

A separate stall was dedicated to Bhopal organ donation society which is a not-for-profit, Non-governmental organization to promote organ donation. The students visited the stall and gathered information about the procedure and many were inspired to be potential donors.With ” Prom” as the theme for this year’s fest, the boys and girls dazzled in their outfits. Mr and Ms PCDS were crowned after the pageant.

The fun and celebrations will continue for a whole week and the PCDS fraternity looks forward to fun filled moments in sports and cultural activities.


On occasion of prosthodontist day ( 22 January), dept of  prosthodontics, PCDS Bhopal, organised a event which had essay competition (Junior and senior category) on topic “God creates….We recreate”, Quiz/Dumb Charades competition for 1st to internship students. The  winner of the essay compettitom was Ms Simran Chhabra ( Intern Batch). The quiz competition was won by First B.D.S Batch with the team compririsng of Shriya Mitna,Supriya Singh and Mehar Shrivastava. Screening of speciality promotional video issued by Indian Prosthodontics Society in college auditorium which was attended by entire staff, and students. Dr.BenaifferAgrawal, HOD addressed the students regarding the importance of world Prosthodontic day and discussed about various treatment modalities included in speciality. Dr.Shaji Thomas , Dean, were the chief guest of the function and congratulated for the successful completion of the event. The event was followed by high tea.

People’s College of Dental Sciences@LIFELINE EXPRESS 2018

The lifeline express, which is an NGO-managed hospital train, has been routinely conducting treatment camps. At Ghazipur, UP, located 55 kms from Benares, the lifeline express conducted a dental camp from the 8th to 16th of January, 2018. A 7-member team from the People’s College of Dental Sciences, Bhopal led by Dr Preeti Nair, Prof & Head, Dept of Oral Medicine & Radiology, successfully participated in the camp.The other members of the team included Dr Neha Gupta, Senior Lecturer, Dept of Oral Medicine & Radiology,  Dr Ashwini Bhusari and Dr Nalini N R, PG  students, Dept of Prosthodontics, Dr Swati Gurjar , Dept of Conservative & Endodontics, Dr Aashna Dhingra, Dept of Public Health Dentistry& Dr Pratiksh Pawar, PG  student, Dept of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

About 1280 patients were examined and 520 patients were treated effectively. A school dental camp was conducted which saw a healthy interaction between the children and the doctors.

The members of the team were felicitated by the Railway Minister of UP, Mr Manoj Sinha. The camp was an eye opener in terms of the few cases of malignancy and precancer lesions with people showing signs of choosing to stay away from addictive substances. All in all it was an enriching experience to all.

World Radiography Day – November 8 2017

The world radiography day was commemorated by the Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology. People’s College of Dental Sciences by organizing a talk on ” Measures towards radiation protection for patients and personnel “. A banner was exhibited by the department which evoked positive response from patients and students.

A talk was delivered in the conference room with the main target audience being post graduate students, so as to help them reinforce their knowledge on background radiation. Emphasis was laid on the dosage of radiation as specified by the National Regulatory Bodies for Radiation Protection. The talk was interactive and well received.



The 1st under graduate convention of IAOMR was held at SAIMS, Indore on 5th November, 2017. A number of undergraduate students from 3rd year BDS, 4th year and Interns participated in poster and paper presentations. The total number of registrations from PCDS&RC was 85.

9 posters and 7 papers were presented on various topics of Oral Medicine and Radiology. There were 3 winners, 2 in paper presentation category, and 1 in the poster presentation.

Joshua Thomas, Jyotirmay Chakravarthy (Interns) got best paper awards and Darshika Taran, Pooja Nayak (3rd BDS) got best poster award.

The faculty of Oral Medicine & Radiology registered for the conference and actively took part in the scientific sessions, encouraging the students.

Dr Preeti Nair, Prof. & Head, Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, PCDS&RC, headed the Scientific Committee of the event. Dr Karthik Hegde, Prof. was in the committee for gifts & memento, Dr Annette Bhambal, Reader, was in the hospitality committee, Dr Neha Gupta, Senior Lecturer, was in the registration committee. All of them played an active role towards motivating students.

Dr. Neha Gupta chaired a session on paper presentation.

This highlight of this event was the presence of stalwarts of this specialty namely Dr. Gnanasundaram and Dr. Umarji, who hail from Chennai and Mumbai respectively. Their talks and interactions were a unique experience to the undergraduates. No other specialty of Dentistry has a UG convention and sensitization program, and hence such a conference in Madhya Pradesh was a singular program of its kind.

Indeed the faculty and students came back enriched by this experience.





Members from the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery attended the 7th annual meeting of the Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons of India ( AOMSI MPCON 217) at Indore. Dr Shaji Thomas was part of the scientific deliberations for the conference. Dr Darpan Bhargava presented his work on temporomandibular joint prolotherapy as a delegate paper.

Post graduate students from the department presented scientific papers. Dr Preeti gurjar was awarded third best research paper for her presentation on utilising platelet rich fibrin as drug delivery system. Dr Pratiksha Pawar bagged the second best research paper award for endorsing the utility of single barrel double lumen needles for temporomandibular joint arthrocentesis. Dr Sudeep Shrivastava’s work on developing iPRF was well appreciated by the scientific jury.

Dr Darpan Bhargava was elected as joint secretary for the AOMSI MP state chapter for the next office term of the association.



“Children’s Health Camp”


A school dental health program was conducted on 1 August 2017 at Islamnagar anganwadi under the guidance of Dr Shaji Thomas ( Dean, People’s College of Dental Sciences) by members of the department of happiness , Dr Parimala Tyagi, Dr Rinky Ahuja and Dr Shikha Mali.

Around seventy children were screened for overall dental health.  An awareness talk on oral health and dental health was given to the children followed by distribution of snacks and toothpaste.

“Workshop on Basic life Support & Advanced cardiac life Support”


An AHA Certificate training workshop was organized on 24th – 26th July 2017 in People’s College of Dental Sciences, Bhopal by Indian Institute of Emergency Medical Services for “Basic life Support “ and “Advanced cardiac life Support”. It was an instructor led course with ample use of videos, team activities and hands on CPR practice using manikins and AED trainers. Participants were trained to promptly recognize several life threatening emergencies and manage them along with immediate post cardiac arrest care also. There was a mega code test and a written exam at the end for the AHA Programme Certificate. There was participation from PCDS & RC, PDA, AIIMS, Various Schools and NGOs


” Tree Plantation Day – 2 July 2017 @ PCDSRC”

With an aim to set a world record by planting six crore saplings on July 2, Hon Chief minister of MP Sri Shivraj Singh Chouhan had assigned targets to 24 districts in which river Narmada flows to cover 1077 km in Madhya Pradesh.

As part of this ambitious project, plantation in the Peoples University campus with the aim of creating awareness about environmental protection was carried out on 02-07-2017. Shri Mukul Gupta, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Govindpura was the chief guest for the occasiton. He delivered the message of environmental protection to the students of People’s University and said that trees are our heritage. Their plantation is therefore necessary that the future generation and future will be safe. Trees have no cost but are most important for life.

Hon Vice Chancellor of People’s Univsrsity, Dr V.K. Pandya stressed the fact that, plantation is being done throughout the year, in out campus. He said that tree plantation is very important in controlling environmental pollution. Through such plantation drives, we can contribute our effort to make the environment healthy. The faculty members along with the students took part in the plantation drive in large numbers. About 500 saplings were planted on the day across the People’s campus. Also, Project Director Col Ashok Khurana said that it is not necessary that plantation should be done only on the plantation day itself. Such programs should be done throughout the year, so that more and more plants can be planted. At the same time, the public should also look after the trees with full dedication. Various dignitaries including the registrar , Dr Neeraja Mallik, Head of Institutions, Faculties of different institutions were present on this occasion. A large number of students from People’s College of Dental Sciences took part in this event.
